Design Technology

We are in the middle of our exciting design technology project; we have designed our rockets and we are currently making them. We are looking forward to following our design to decorate them.

Comparing Numbers

We have been learning to compare numbers. Not only have we been learning to say which number is greater or fewer but we have also been learning to say by how many. This is not easy and we are still working on this, any work at home discussing numbers would be great for the children.

Religious Education

In Religious Education we are learning all about Jesus and why he is special. This week we started our unit by thinking about who is special to us, what makes them special and the things we do with them. The children decided their friends and family were special as they look after them and play with them.

Science (Predictions)

This week in science we have been learning about predictions and continued learning about materials. The children were given 6 statements about materials e.g. cork floats and you cannot see through glass. The children had to predict whether the statements were true or false then set up investigations to find out if their investigations were true or false. We then began making our own statements to prove or disprove. The children really impressed me with their ideas.

PSHE

During our PSHE unit we were learning about feelings and how to control our emotions so we read the story ‘My mouth is a volcano’ by Julia Cook. During our lesson we discussed strategies for dealing with impulsive behaviour and also the effect that it can have on other children. We brainstormed ideas on what to do when we feel ourselves erupting and displayed our ideas in our calm corner to remind us how we can keep our classroom environment calm.

English Lesson

During our English lesson on play scripts we created freeze frames to better understand how the characters were feeling in the script we were reading.

World Artist Day

On world artist day Year 2 studied the work of Jasper Johns. We looked at lots of his painting and created an example of his ‘Colour by numbers’ piece. The children thoroughly enjoyed the layering, printing and painting to create their numbers. It looked so effective when put together.

So far this term and our Skipton Castle Trip

We have had a fantastic term so far with lots of learning taking place. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to two of our girls as both have now moved away to different areas and gone to new schools. However, we welcomed 3 more children to our class just before Christmas and are delighted. As a small group, we are all pretty close and it is sad when our friends leave but very exciting when we get new children joining us. We are very lucky to have Mr Mulla joining us this term too as he completes his EYFS placement here at Holy Trinity. He hasn’t taught such young children before but is very much looking forward to it.This half term we will be learning about castles and how people used to live in me
