Welcome to Class 2SB!
The class teachers are Miss Sumner on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Miss Barnes on Thursday and Friday.
Please see our curriculum page for more information of the all objectives the children will cover this half term. The children in Year 2 are looking forward to a fantastic Summer Term!
We have a focused session on Phonics, Guided Reading, Writing and Maths each day. We also have a weekly timetabled lesson for our foundation subjects.
Homework and important information
As the end of KS1 SATs tests are approaching, we are busy with revision to prepare the children in Year 2. For homework, each child will be given 12 spellings to learn each week on a Friday and the following week there will be a short test on these. Spellings will be sent home on a piece of paper and these can be practiced in the pink exercise book which can stay at home.
We will also be setting a Maths task on My Maths which can be done on a computer or tablet. Please see the letter sent home with log-in instructions and password information. If there are any problems with this please contact Miss Sumner or Miss Barnes.
As always, we expect children to be reading to an adult at least 3 times a week- recorded in their reading record. Pupils read with an adult at school at least twice a week but the more practice the better! Thank you for your support in your child’s education, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
P.E days are Mondays and Fridays. Please can we ask that your child comes into school wearing a full P.E kit. This includes a plain white P.E top, trainers, black or navy joggers, and a school jumper.
Our class novel this half term is The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch.
In our English lessons, we have already learned about poetry, letters, non-chronological reports, instructions and a story narrative. This half term we look forward to focusing on recounts and improving our self-editing skills.
In maths, we follow the scheme White Rose. This half term we will continue learning about fractions, statistics and properties of shape.
This term in science we are learning about animals including humans; that animals, including humans, have offspring which grow into adults and about the basic needs for survival (water, food, and air). We will learn about the importance for humans of exercise, eating the right amounts of different types of food, and hygiene.
In R.E this half term we will be learning about sacred books in different religions.
