Learn Together, Shine Together.

CLASS R/1A     Mrs Abram     Miss Hutcheon     Mrs Gavin

Under normal circumstances, the children would be taking home reading books but because of restrictions enforced due to the coronavirus, all reading will take place in school and we will compensate for the children not reading at home by doing extra reading in class.

Much of the homework will be linked to the topic and will involve the children finding things out by asking their family members questions or bringing things in from home to talk about with their class.

Your child’s PE lessons will take place on Friday afternoon so please can the children come to school dressed in their outdoor PE clothes every Friday. This can be dark coloured leggings or sweat pants and a T-shirt. They will be able to wear their school sweatshirt or cardigan when it gets too cold.

This half term...

This half term’s topic is ‘Ourselves and our Family’. This will include lots of work based on personal and emotional development and the children’s emotional wellbeing which is really important for all of us during these unsettling times. The children will learn about belonging and family and how families come in all different shapes and sizes as do people too. We will talk about our likes and dislikes; discuss all the things we are good at and all the things that we want to learn to do in our first term in school. The classroom has a home role-play area as well as a Health Centre where the children can learn about keeping safe and healthy and all about their amazing body too.

The children will do Read, Write Inc sessions and additional reading and writing focussed tasks every day.

They will do maths focussed tasks every day following whole class teaching input from Mrs Abram.

There will be a range of activities linked to our topic/seasonal events that the children will access through continuous provision. These will be set up both indoors and outdoors. The children will be encouraged to initiate their own learning during continuous provision with the adults intervening and modelling specific things during play. Continuous provision themes are changed weekly to match the focused learning that is taking place.

The children will have weekly RE, music, IT and outdoor PE lessons which will take place in the afternoon alongside the continuous provision.

Sadly, we are unable to meet together as a whole school during the coronavirus pandemic so we will have daily worship each day in the classroom.
