Year 2 have been learning about India Mill in Darwen and have found out that it was developed and owned by Eccles Shorrock.
He had a really interesting life and we have all been fascinated to learn all about him. No doubt Year 2 parents have been impressed by how much their children know! Sadly, Shorrock had a very bad ending to his life, dying in Edinburgh Asylum.
His body was brought back to Darwen but because his family were too embarrassed about the way he died, they never marked his grave with a gravestone. Recently, the Friends of Darwen Cemetery paid for this beautiful stone that has an engraving of India Mill on it, and Kaida went one day after school with her mum and found it.
