CLASS 5/6C HOME LEARNING 27.04.2020

Morning everyone!

Monday morning again. I hope you all had a lovely weekend and made the most of the weather whilst staying safe.

Everyone has their new packs now, which is great and means we can start. If you have started already that is fine. We all have slightly different packs, so tasks will vary but I will try to make it easy to understand for everyone.

Reading

Could you complete the reading comprehension about The Earth (everyone has this in their packs.)

Firstly, read through the text and highlight any important facts that you think may be important.

Now on the back answer the questions, remember to use the text and especially the highlighted information. Use the VIPERS skills from class (vocabulary, inference, prediction, explain, retrieve and summarise.)

English

Spelling Book – find this booklet in your pack entitled ‘Correct the spelling mistake’.

  • Complete the first task. Have a go at spelling each circled word correctly and then use a dictionary or an online dictionary to fine the definition of the word if you are unsure and to check and mark your answers.

  • In your exercise book, use each circled word (correctly spelled) in a sentence – one that perhaps contains a main clause and a subordinate / relative clause e.g.

  • The solider, who was incredibly brave, marched to battle.

Main clause (what the sentence is about) Relative or subordinate clause (extra information)

Task

Now, could you make a fact she about planet Earth?

Use the highlighted facts from the comprehension and research some others. You get to choose the layout, could be a leaflet or a poster, whatever you want.

Next find your list of spellings in your pack.

Choose 3 words and look at the sheet behind it. Choose 3 different techniques to write out the word in your exercise book.

Now try to spell the word without looking.....did you spell it correctly?

Maths

Have a go at your Magic Square sheet from your pack. Look at the example at the front and now have a go at the ones on the back. It may take you more than one attempt to get the right answer but this is all about resilience. Do not give up and keep going.

If you find this easy could you have a go at making your own magic square, plan it in pencil and maybe ask an adult to solve it. If you need any help, send me an email.

Watch the video about the Good Samaritan, we have looked at this story in class but just refresh.

Firstly, I want you to think of 3 Christian Values the Good Samaritan shows and explain why. Choose the 3 most obvious.

Now, in the current situation, I think we can make lots of links between the Good Samaritan and lots of people in society. Can you make links between the behaviour and values of the Good Samaritan and the NHS, military and other key workers at the moment? How are their actions linked?

What do you think Jesus would say about all the vital work they carry out at the moment?

Would he class them as your neighbour even though they might not live next door to you? Use the teachings of the story to explain why.

Finish off the day with 5 minutes of Joe Wicks
