HOME LEARNING 2L 18.05.2020
I hope you had a nice weekend and were able to go on some nice daily exercise perhaps you went a bit further now that we're allowed! I have found my daily walks the most effective thing to keep me happy and feeling good, so keep up that daily exercise. There are plenty of things you can do, if you have a brother or sister in your house you can play games with them or make your own little training session to follow, like Joe Wicks does.
I hope you did well in your spelling test last week, your new spellings for this week are below they are focusing on:
How to change the tense of words by adding a suffix. These words change tense by adding ‘ed’ and ‘ing’ to a verb (doing word) that ends with the letter ‘e’.
Please help by practising these words with your child. Thank you for your help.
A suffix is a letter or letters added to the end of a word to make another word.
Verbs are ‘doing’ words (run, skip, jump etc).
A verb can be written in the past (I ran), present (I am running) or future tense (I will run).
Discuss the meaning of the words and try to think of a sentence containing the word.
As usual on top of practising these spellings, discuss with an adult what they mean if their are any words that your not sure of or use a dictionary or google to find out.
English: I would like you to focus on tenses of verbs.
Click on the bbc bitesize link and complete the activities to fully understand how to change the tense of verbs.
I would then like you to list 5-8 different verbs to your spellings e.g. cook, mix, jump, swim and write them ion your exercise book. Then write them underneath in the past tense and then under that in the present tense just like your spelling sheet.
Then I would like you to write a sentence with each verb in. So there will be a mixture of sentences with past, present and future verbs in. Try to make them interesting and think about your handwriting.
Maths: Last week you were following the Oak Academy Fractions unit. I hope this wasn't too hard as we have not done too much on fractions this year. We are going to continue with this as this is something we really need to master.
Today I would like you to follow the link and access Lesson 6- To identify unit fractions of quantity.
Miss Hutcheon wanted to let you know that she is also missing seeing your little faces on Thursdays and Fridays so has sent some tasks that she would like you to get on with as part of the learning you were doing with her. So this week I will be posting different activities/tasks that will keep you busy.
Maths task- You were focusing on time, so task 1 is to write down what times you do certain routines throughout the day e.g. I eat my breakfast at 7 o'clock. I get dressed at 9 o'clock. I have a snack at 10 o'clock. Then answer this question,
How many hours between breakfast and dinner?
Write a diary entry of an aeroplane trip to Australia. The children should remember how long it takes. They could include how they were feeling at the beginning of the trip compared to the end. Did they complete any activities? Who went with them? What did they eat? Was it tasty? What was the aeroplane like?
This can all be recorded into your exercise book. I'm sure Miss Hutcheon will be looking forward to seeing what you've come up with.
