CLASS 6A HOME LEARNING 22.05.2020

Hello there everyone. Well, it’s Friday again. Does anyone else think the weeks are passing by really quickly or is that just me?

I hope you all managed to have a good go at yesterday’s tasks but if you didn’t manage to finish don’t worry, simply carry on where you left off. If you did manage to complete all the tasks I set, here are your new learning opportunities for today.

Maths –Find the sheet ‘Percentage of Quantities’. (page 102). We have looked at percentages previously so this task should be well within everyone’s capabilities. Remember that the easiest thing to do when calculating percentages is to find 10% (by dividing the amount by 10) and once you know what this answer is you can easily work out what 5% or 20% is by simply doubling or halving.

Also remember that 50% = ½ and 25% = ¼ & to find 1% of an amount simply divide the amount by 100.

· Have a go at calculating the percentage of amounts in Section A.

e.g. 10% of 90 = 90 ÷ 10 = 9 or 20% of 70 = 10% of 70 = (70 ÷ 10) =7 so 20% is double 10% which = 7 x 2 = 14

· Now work your way down the worksheet completing each section as you get to it. Always read the questions carefully before beginning to solve them.

Comprehension - Log onto purple mash and find some 2 dos about the book ‘The Lost Myth of Mathos.’

· Read chapter four of the book.

· Answer the online multiple choice questions.

· Now answer these open ended questions:

1. Why didn’t Mathos ask Perseus for help?

2. Look at the paragraph beginning: ‘That stopped her. She looked me up and…’ Find and copy the phrase that suggests that Sariena is a confident fighter.

3. Why did Sariena mistake Mathos for Perseus?

4. Just then, Pegasus reared and let out an almighty noise. He shook his wings and I saw smoke coming from one of them. Why did Pegasus have smoke coming from one of his wings?

5. Why do you think that Sariena chose to help Mathos, rather than go and tell her father about the trouble he had caused?

Grammar

· Read each sentence and decide if it is Passive or Active. Write P or A at the end of the sentence.

Mathos stole Perseus’ armour.

Sariena lifted the helmet from Mathos’ head.

Pegasus was ridden by the children.

The wing tip was soothed in a bucket of water.

Writing -The chapter finishes with Mathos and Sariena on their way to defeat Chrysaor. Do you think that their plan will work? What problems might they encounter? Perhaps the Kraken will make another appearance. Now click on ‘the story continues’ 2 do.

· Create the next part of the story and type it on the Purple Mash pages. Be sure to use the prompts on the left hand side to help you.

Reading - As always, find yourself a quiet corner where you won’t be disturbed, and read a book of your choice for at least 20 minutes.

Have a great half –term break (I’m not setting any work next week) and remember to stay safe.

Mr. A
