CLASS 6A HOME LEARNING 03.06.2020

Morning all. I hope you all managed to have a go at yesterday’s work but don’t worry if you didn’t – simply carry on today and then you can have a look at today’s tasks when you have got time. If you did manage to finish them, well done and here are your tasks for today. I appreciate we are getting towards the end of this pack but there will be a new one available from tomorrow so look out for it.

Maths – For today’s maths session you are going to use the same booklet as yesterday.

  • Turn to page 13 titled ‘Mental maths – addition’. There are 10 questions on this page and I’d like you to work out in your head the answers to the problems.

  • Now turn to the next page. This is all about working against the clock – setting a time limit of say 5 seconds for each problem. This will improve quick mental recall skills.

  • OK – so now have a go at sheet 3. You may be dealing with bigger numbers or more numbers this time so think about what strategies to use e.g.

Add together 37 21 46 and 43 - I would add 37 and 43 first to make 80, then add 21 to make 101

then add 46 to make 147 but it up to you to work it out. Whichever way is better for you.

  • If you manage to finish all those, have a look at page 16/17. You can use written methods to solve these problems if you need to but you will score more points if you can work them out in your head correctly! You can check your answers on a calculator once you have solved them and you can award yourself the appropriate points. Good Luck! And have fun.

Comprehension - Log onto purple mash and find some 2 dos about the book ‘The Lost Myth of Mathos.’

  • Read the last chapter of the book and answer the online multiple choice questions.

  • Now answer these open ended questions:

1. What was stopping Pegasus’ feather blowing away in the wind?

2. What did Mathos offer to do if Chrysaor agreed to forget about killing Perseus?

3. Look at the paragraph that begins with If ever I needed to find the right words and speak with confidence… Why was it so important for Mathos to make eye contact with Chrysaor at this moment?

4. Why did Sariena think that they should keep quiet about what they had achieved?

5. Find and copy a phrase that suggests that it was about midday when Mathos woke up from his sleep.

Spelling- Circle the correct spellings to complete the sentence below.

Mathos was an antisocial/antisotial boy and didn’t like to speak unless it was essenscial/essential. He knew that if he spoke to Chrysaor, it would be beneficial/benefishal to Pegasus.

  • Use a dictionary to find and copy the meaning of each word.

  • Now use each word correctly in a good Year 6 sentence.

Now we have finished reading about the lost Myth of Mathos, write a thorough review of the story. You must include:

A synopsis (brief summary) of the story – don’t go into too much detail.

Your opinion - What did you think of the story?

What was your favourite part? Explain why.

What was your least favourite part? Explain why.

What age range would you recommend this book to? Why?

How many stars out of 5 would you award it?

Design an alternative front cover for the book. (What should be on it?)
