Mental Health and Wellbeing Support at Holy Trinity

We believe in promoting positive mental health and wellbeing to our pupils, staff and families.

Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing

At Holy Trinity C of E Primary School we access a range of services to support positive Mental Health and emotional wellbeing to ensure that the school is a community where everyone feels they are able to thrive. Our school ethos and values underpin everything we do.

Who has Mental Health?

We all have mental health – some people call this emotional health or wellbeing.

What is Mental Health?

The World Health Organisation defines mental health as a state of wellbeing in which every individual achieves their potential, copes with the normal stresses of life, works productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to their community. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social wellbeing. It affects how we think, feel and act.

Good mental health and wellbeing is just as important as good physical health. Like physical health, mental health can range across a spectrum from healthy to unwell; it can fluctuate on a daily basis and change over time.

Tips for improving your mental wellbeing:

There are lots of things we can try to take care of our wellbeing. We have tips to help you:

It's not always easy to start with caring for your wellbeing. You might find it helpful to:

  • only try what feels comfortable
  • give yourself time to figure out what works for you, going at your own pace
  • take small steps. Pick one or two things that feel achievable at first, before moving on to try other ideas.

What we do at Holy Trinity?

Our door is always open to our parents, carers and families to discuss anything that is worrying them and we hold a weekly Parents Support Circle which is available for all parents, carers and families to have a safe (and warm) space to get to know each other and talk to our Family Support Worker, Mrs Jones. Please contact Mrs Jones on 01254 702119 nadia.jones@holytrinity.blackburn.sch.uk for more information.

We have regular communication with the Mental Health Support Team within East Lancashire Child and Adolescent Services by attending weekly consultations and support our children with referrals into the service.

Our children have access to weekly Nurture sessions by our trained ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) Mrs Gavin. In these sessions the children are supported with their feelings and emotional wellbeing and work closely within their Zones of Regulation, this is delivered through nurture groups for pupils, such as small group ‘time to talk’ social skills work, resilience skills.

Throughout the school we have worry boxes and safe spaces for pupils to share their worries with a safe adult.

We have nominated school council members in each class to represent their peers and gain feedback in class assemblies.

Our Family Support Worker and Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mrs Jones meets regularly with children to who need more regular meetings to support their needs.

We have a range of physical lunchtime clubs and quieter lunchtime clubs to promote mental health and wellbeing and support for pupils who find busy lunchtimes stressful.

We have positive behaviour systems in place to promote positive social behaviour which is inline with our behaviour policy.

We have a PSHE curriculum that helps pupils to build important life skills, such as learning to learn, habits of mind and the growth mindset.

We include World Mental Health Day and Mental Health Awareness Week in the school calendar and plan activities for the whole school.

Please see the Nurture section as part of our SEND page on our Website for more information on our nurture provision.
